Neurodiversity refers to diversity in the human brain and cognition, for instance in sociability, learning, attention, mood, and other mental functions.

Examples: autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, dyslexia, cerebral palsy, etc.

  • Music therapy highlights strengths while addressing weaknesses or challenges

  • Music therapy can help address issues with sensory processing or integration

  • Music therapy promotes communication and expression without the need for words

  • Music therapy can address social skills and help foster meaningful relationships

What it may look like:

  • Dimmed lights to decrease sensory overload

  • Vocal improvisations on neutral syllables

  • Drumming to promote bilateral use across midline

  • Strumming guitar to promote hand-eye coordination and hand strength

Music is the only thing we can engage with that activates every part of our brain
